Der Zauberlehrling. Illustrationen von Sabine Wilharm

„Die ich rief, die Geister, werd’ ich nun nicht los.“ Wer kennt sie nicht, die Verse aus Goethes „Der Zauberlehrling“. Sabine Wilharm, eine der renommiertesten deutschen Illustratorinnen, hat zur klassischen Ballade eine fantastisch-magische Bilderwelt geschaffen. Die Ausstellung zeigt die Originale zum im Kindermann Verlag in der Reihe „Poesie für Kinder“ erschienenen Bilderbuch. Sabine Wilharm wurde vor allem bekannt durch die Einbandgestaltung der deutschsprachigen Harry-Potter-Ausgaben.

Verlängert bis 9. Juni 2024: Struwwelpeter als Radikaler. Politische Karikaturen der Paulskirchen-Zeit

In der Revolutionszeit von 1848/49 tauchten die Figuren aus dem 1845 erschienenen „Struwwelpeter“ erstmals im politischen Kontext auf. Die rebellischen Charaktere trafen den Nerv der Zeit. Im Mai 2023 jährte sich der Zusammentritt des Paulskirchen-Parlaments in Frankfurt am Main zum 175. Mal. Die Ausstellung zeigt Struwwelpeters unbekannte revolutionäre Wurzeln mit vielen seltenen Originalkarikaturen und Satiren: Da steht der Struwwelpeter als langhaariger Revolutionär, der Suppen-Kaspar scheitert als Paulskirchen-Parlamentarier am Nein-Sagen und der badische Republikaner Friedrich Hecker wird zum bösen Friederich. Struwwelpeter-Autor Heinrich Hoffmann selbst präsentierte seine Figur 1848 als „Peter Struwwel, Demagog“ im satirischen „Handbüchlein für Wühler“. Die historischen Momentaufnahmen illustrieren den Verlauf der Revolution von Ende 1847 bis 1849.

Für Kinder gibt es den Ausstellungsteil „Struwwelpeter erzählt von der Revolution“ mit Platz für eigene revolutionäre Ideen und die Fotostation „Hut auf! Verkleidet Euch als rebellische Struwwelpeter!“

Unser Veranstaltungsbereich

Das im Jahr 2019 eröffnete Struwwelpeter Museum liegt am bezaubernden Hühnermarkt im Herzen der neuen Frankfurter Altstadt. Mit seiner repräsentativen Architektur und einer besonderen Atmosphäre eignet sich das Museum als Ort für Tagungen, Konferenzen, Vorträge, Preisverleihungen, Firmenveranstaltungen, Workshops, Teambuilding und Empfänge. Der Veranstaltungsraum im zweiten OG bietet wunderbare Ausblicke auf die neue Altstadt.

Lassen Sie sich vom Haus voller Geschichten verzaubern. Auf Wunsch bieten wir Führungen oder Vorträge passend zur Veranstaltung an. Auch Teambuilding-Workshops rund um die archetypischen Struwwelpeter-Figuren sind möglich.

Zeitraum

Tagesveranstaltungen können im ganzen Museum an unserem Schließtag Montag stattfinden. Der Veranstaltungsraum Struwwel-Forum kann tagsüber an allen Wochentagen gemietet werden. Abendveranstaltungen sind an allen Wochentagen möglich. Beginn der Abendveranstaltung: 18:00 Uhr (Aufbau ist ab 17:00 möglich); Ende: 23:00 Uhr.

Till May 26: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Illustrations by Sabine Wilharm

Sabine Wilharm, one of Germany’s most renowned illustrators, has created a magical world of images to accompany the classic ballad of Johann Wolfgang Goethe. The exhibition shows the originals for the picture book published by Kindermann Verlag in the « Poetry for Children » series. Sabine Wilharm is best known for her cover designs for the German-language Harry Potter editions.

Until June 9, 2024: Struwwelpeter as a radical. Political caricatures of 1848/49

In the revolutionary times of 1848/49 in Germany, the characters from “Struwwelpeter », published in 1845, appeared in a political context. The exhibition shows Struwwelpeter’s unknown revolutionary roots with caricatures and satires. Struwwelpeter author Heinrich Hoffmann himself presented his character in 1848 as « Peter Struwwel, Demagogue » in the satirical « Handbook for Revolutionaries ».

TSIKARA – MUSEUM IN MUSEUM (till 6 January 2019)

The exhibition ‘Tsikara’-Museum in Museum is based on the content of the famous Georgian Folk tale “Tsikara”. The show presents various art works, such as illustrations, sculptures, prints, installations, posters. Special activities for children are part of the exhibition. The show is performed via illustrations, 3D objects, and other artistic mediums to create the specific mood of a “real” museum with “real” artifacts. It gives its visitors an opportunity to fully comprehend the content and take a journey through the Georgian Tale. The project introduces Georgian artists, illustrators and designers to the German Public.

‘Tsikara’ – Museum in Museum is part of the events accompanying Georgia being the Guest of Honor at the Frankfurt Buchmesse 2018.

Heinrich Hoffmann’s lifework was the reform of psychiatry in nineteenth century Frankfurt. His work marks the starting point of efforts to make a good life possible for the mentally ill.

The board of the Struwwelpeter-Museum is dedicated to working for and with the mentally ill. The frankfurter werkgemeinschaft e.V. (or “fwg”) is a broadly diversified social work group focused on the rehabilitation, inclusion, and care of the mentally ill and handicapped. Acceptance, the dismantling of prejudices, and the integration of the mentally ill and handicapped into society are the goals of our work.

According to the degree and severity of the psychiatric problems, we offer pedagogical, professional, and social help to make for an enduring, rewarding life in society.

Visit Struwwelpeter! Tours for children

For kindergartners and children of other grade levels we offer a participatory program consisting of two parts and lasting between 60 and 90 minutes. During the first part of the program children are made familiar with a wide range of topics in Heinrich Hoffmann’s classic Struwwelpeter in a manner that is age-appropriate. In this section of the tour children learn how the Struwwelpeter came to be written, as well as about the backgrounds of the different stories. Together with their tour guide the children talks about the comic strip like stories and connect the old stories to the experiences of children today. In the museum’s dialogue with visiting children, the particular quality of this children’s literature classic arises: the book gives children the chance to approach and think about a broad spectrum of experiences in their own lives, from arguments at the dinner table, to daydreaming.

During the tour the children explore the exhibition with various « hands on-games » inspired by the stories. The children are shown original works of Heinrich Hoffmann, old editions, imitations, translations, kitsch, and artworks that document the long success of the Struwwelpeter.

The second part of the tour is a theatre workshop: The children act and reinterpret the Struwwelpeter stories using the various costumes and props in the museum’s theatre room. Whether or not a story should end as it does in the book is entirely up to the children performing it. Children incorporate their everyday experiences and perform with varying amounts of intensity in these impromptu shows. The grand finale is the performance of the impromtu sketches on our little stage.

Tours for adults and young adults

For adults and students of higher grade levels the museum offers general tours of at least an hour in length on the topic of “Heinrich Hoffmann and his Struwwelpeter.” The following themes may also be covered, by request:
